India Post GDS 4th Merit List 2026 Released - 28635 Posts Selection List
India Post has officially released the 4th Merit List 2026 for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment on its official portal at indiapost.gov.in. This is the fourth and likely the final merit list for the massive recruitment drive against 28635 vacancies of GDS, Branch Postmaster (BPM), and Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) across all states and union territories of India. Selected candidates have already been notified through SMS on their registered mobile number and email on their registered email ID. Candidates who applied between 31 January and 14 February 2026, and have been waiting for the merit list since the first list was released in March 2026, can now check their selection status on the official India Post GDS portal. Sarkari Notice 247 has been tracking this recruitment since the notification was issued, and with 28635 posts on offer, this is one of the largest government recruitment drives of 2026.
What makes India Post GDS recruitment unique is that there is no written examination. The selection is purely based on the marks obtained in the 10th class, which means candidates who scored well in their matriculation have a direct chance of getting a central government job without going through the rigorous written test and interview process that most other government recruitments require. The cut-off for selection varies from state to state and from category to category, with states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab typically having higher cut-offs due to better 10th class performance, while states like Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha have relatively lower cut-offs. The 4th merit list has been released to fill the vacancies left vacant after selected candidates from previous lists did not join or were found ineligible during document verification.
Selected candidates will be appointed at village post offices across India, with salary ranging from Rs 10000 to Rs 29380 per month depending on the specific post and location. The BPM post carries higher responsibility as it involves managing a Branch Post Office independently, while ABPM assists the BPM in day-to-day operations. GDS posts involve delivering mail, managing small savings accounts, and providing various postal and financial services to rural customers. SJN 2026 advises selected candidates to complete the document verification process within the stipulated time, as failure to do so will result in cancellation of selection and the vacancy will be offered to the next candidate in the waiting list. Sarkari Notice 247 will provide updates on subsequent merit lists and joining schedules as and when announced by India Post.
