PM Internship Yojana 2026 (PMIS) - 1 Lakh Internships in Top 500 Companies with Stipend
Getting a foot in the door of a top company is the biggest challenge for fresh graduates and diploma holders in India. You study hard for 3 or 4 years, get a degree, but then realise that companies want work experience even for entry-level jobs. The PM Internship Yojana 2026, also called PM Internship Scheme (PMIS), is designed to break this vicious cycle. Launched in October 2024 after announcement in Budget 2024-25, the scheme provides 1 lakh internship opportunities in the top 500 companies of India, with a monthly stipend, one-time assistance of Rs 6000, and full insurance coverage. I know a 22-year-old from my village who completed his BCom in 2025, was sitting idle at home, and got selected for an internship at a Tata Group company through PMIS. He now earns Rs 12000 a month, gets free lunch, and is learning actual accounting work that no college textbook ever taught him.
The eligibility criteria is what makes this scheme unique. It is not for IIT-IIM graduates or those already in good jobs. It is specifically for youth aged 21 to 24 who have completed Class 12, ITI, Diploma, or Graduation, but are NOT employed in any formal sector and NOT pursuing full-time regular post-graduation. The income criteria is also strict - family income should not exceed Rs 8 lakh per annum, and no family member should be in a government job (Group A) or above. This ensures that the scheme reaches genuinely needy youth from lower-middle-class and poor families who otherwise have no networking connections to get into top companies.
The internship lasts for 12 months, during which the intern gets hands-on work experience in real projects, not just filing and data entry. The monthly stipend varies by company but is typically between Rs 5000 and Rs 15000, of which the government contributes Rs 500 per month towards stipend and Rs 6000 as one-time assistance. The intern also gets accidental and life insurance coverage during the internship period. On completion, the intern receives a Certificate of Internship which is recognised by employers across India. Many interns are also absorbed as regular employees by the host company based on their performance. Sarkari Notice 247 strongly recommends all eligible youth to apply for this scheme, as it can be a life-changing opportunity for those who have the qualifications but not the connections.
