PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana 2026 - Free Skill Training in 400 Plus Job Roles with Stipend
India has the largest youth population in the world, but most of them are unemployable because they lack job-specific skills. A Class 12 pass student may know history and geography, but cannot operate a CNC machine or write a Python program. The PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana 2026 (PMKVY) bridges this skill gap by providing free short-term skill training in over 400 job roles across 37 sectors. The training is completely free, comes with NSDC certification, and includes placement assistance. A friend of mine from a small town in UP completed a 6-month Electrician course under PMKVY in 2024, and within 2 months of certification, he got a job at a private company in Noida with Rs 18000 monthly salary. Without this scheme, he would have been unemployed even today.
What makes PMKVY special is the industry-aligned curriculum. The job roles and training modules are designed by Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) which are bodies set up by industry leaders. This means the skills you learn are exactly what employers want - no outdated theory, no irrelevant content. The courses range from IT (Data Entry Operator, Web Developer, Mobile App Developer) to Healthcare (General Duty Assistant, Home Health Aide), from Retail (Sales Associate, Cashier) to Hospitality (Food and Beverage Service, Housekeeping), from Manufacturing (Welder, Fitter, CNC Operator) to BFSI (Business Correspondent, Insurance Agent). The training duration varies from 3 to 12 months depending on the course complexity.
The best part is the placement assistance. Every PMKVY training partner has a placement cell that helps certified candidates find jobs. The target is minimum 70% placement for each batch. Many training partners have tie-ups with companies for direct recruitment. The starting salary ranges from Rs 10000 to Rs 25000 per month depending on the sector and location. For special courses under PMKVY 4.0 (announced in Budget 2023), trainees also get a stipend of Rs 8000 per month during training. The certification is recognised across India and is a valuable addition to your resume. Sarkari Notice 247 strongly recommends every youth aged 15-45, especially school dropouts and unemployed graduates, to enroll in a PMKVY course today.
How to Apply for PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana 2026
- Step 1: Check your eligibility: You should be an Indian citizen aged 15-45 years, with minimum Class 10 pass (some courses require Class 12 or graduation). You should not have availed PMKVY training before for the same job role. Aadhaar card is mandatory.
- Step 2: Visit the official PMKVY portal at pmkvyofficial.org. Browse the list of available job roles and training centres. Choose a job role that matches your interest and educational qualification. You can also visit a nearby PMKVY training centre for guidance.
- Step 3: Register online on the PMKVY portal using your Aadhaar number and mobile number. Fill in your personal details, educational qualification, and preference for job role and training centre. Upload required documents (Aadhaar, educational certificate, photograph).
- Step 4: After registration, you will receive a message on your registered mobile number with the training centre details and reporting date. Visit the training centre on the specified date with your original documents for verification and enrollment.
- Step 5: At the training centre, the staff will verify your documents and do Aadhaar-based biometric authentication. They will enroll you in the chosen course and give you the training schedule, study material, and uniform (if applicable). The training is completely free - no fee is charged.
- Step 6: Attend the training regularly as per the schedule. The training duration varies from 3 to 12 months depending on the course. Some courses include on-the-job training at partner companies. For special courses under PMKVY 4.0, you will receive a stipend of Rs 8000 per month during training.
- Step 7: After completing the training, you will be assessed by the Sector Skill Council through a theory and practical exam. If you pass, you will receive an NSDC recognised certificate within 15 days. The training centre placement cell will help you find a job. Attend the placement drives and interviews arranged by the centre.
