PM Mudra Yojana 2026 - Collateral-Free Business Loan Up to Rs 10 Lakh
Starting a small business in India used to be a nightmare for people without property to pledge as collateral. Banks would simply refuse to lend, and moneylenders charged 36 to 60 percent interest that ensured the borrower remained in debt forever. The Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana 2026, launched in April 2015, has changed this reality for lakhs of small entrepreneurs. Under PMMY, you can get a business loan up to Rs 10 lakh without any collateral or guarantor, at interest rates between 8 and 12 percent, and that too from scheduled commercial banks, RRBs, and NBFCs. I know a tailor in my neighbourhood who took a Shishu loan of Rs 45000 to buy a second-hand power sewing machine, and within 18 months his monthly income doubled from Rs 18000 to Rs 40000.
What makes MUDRA different from regular business loans is the three-tier structure that matches the growth stage of your business. Shishu (up to Rs 50000) is for new micro businesses just starting out - think street vendors, tailors, cobblers, small kirana shops. Kishore (Rs 50000 to Rs 5 lakh) is for existing small businesses that need capital to expand - maybe buy more inventory, add a delivery vehicle, or open a second outlet. Tarun (Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh) is for established micro enterprises looking to scale up significantly. There is also Tarun Plus (Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh) for existing MUDRA borrowers with a clean repayment track record. The beauty is that no collateral is required for any category up to Rs 10 lakh, which is the biggest relief for small entrepreneurs who do not own a house or land.
The application process is simpler than most people think. You do not need to visit the MUDRA office or fill any central government form. Just walk into any commercial bank (SBI, PNB, Bank of Baroda, etc.), Regional Rural Bank, or NBFC with your business idea, Aadhaar card, PAN card, bank statement of last 6 months, and a simple business plan. The bank officer will guide you to fill the MUDRA loan application form. For Shishu loans, the process is as simple as a personal loan - sanction in 7 to 10 days. For Kishore and Tarun, the bank will conduct a site visit and credit appraisal, which takes 15 to 30 days. Sarkari Notice 247 strongly advises applicants to have a Udyam Registration (MSME certificate) before applying, as it strengthens your application and speeds up the sanction process.
How to Apply for PM Mudra Loan 2026
- Get your documents ready: Aadhaar card, PAN card, bank passbook, last 6 months bank statement, passport size photo, and business address proof. If you have Udyam Registration (MSME certificate), keep it handy - it speeds up sanction.
- Prepare a simple business plan on a plain paper. Write what business you do, how much loan you need, what you will buy with the loan money, how much monthly income you expect, and how you will repay the EMI. Keep it practical and honest.
- Visit the nearest branch of any commercial bank (SBI, PNB, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, etc.), Regional Rural Bank, or NBFC. Most banks accept MUDRA loan applications. You can also find the nearest lending institution on mudra.org.in.
- Ask for the MUDRA Loan Application Form. Fill in your personal details, business details, loan amount required, and loan category (Shishu/Kishore/Tarun). Attach self-attested copies of all documents.
- Submit the form at the bank counter and take a receiving copy with the date stamp. The bank will allot you a loan application number. Use this number to track your application status with the bank.
- For Shishu loans (up to Rs 50000), sanction usually comes in 7 to 10 days. For Kishore and Tarun loans, the bank officer will visit your business premises for verification, and sanction takes 15 to 30 days.
- After sanction, sign the loan agreement at the bank. The loan amount will be disbursed to your bank account within 7 days. Start paying the EMI from the next month as per the repayment schedule. Timely repayment improves your CIBIL score and makes you eligible for higher loans in future.
