PM SVANidhi Yojana 2026 - Street Vendor Loan up to Rs 50000 at 0 Percent Interest
Walk through any Indian market and you will see street vendors selling everything from vegetables and fruits to clothes and mobile covers. These vendors are the backbone of our informal economy, yet they have always been at the mercy of moneylenders who charge 5 to 10 percent per month interest. The PM SVANidhi Yojana 2026, launched in June 2020 in the aftermath of the pandemic, has been a lifeline for these vendors. The scheme provides working capital loans up to Rs 50000 at subsidised interest rates, and if you repay on time, the effective interest rate works out to zero percent. Yes, you read that right - zero percent. I met a chai vendor in Bhopal last month who took Rs 10000 first tranche to buy a bigger kettle and stock more biscuits, repaid it in 8 months, then took Rs 20000 to add a snack counter, and is now applying for the Rs 50000 third tranche to open a second cart.
What makes SVANidhi unique is the three-tranche structure that builds financial discipline. You cannot jump directly to the Rs 50000 loan. You first take Rs 10000 as first tranche, repay it within the stipulated time, then become eligible for Rs 20000 as second tranche, repay that, and finally become eligible for Rs 50000 as third tranche. This step-by-step approach ensures that vendors who have never taken formal credit before can build a credit history and learn the discipline of EMI repayment. The total maximum loan across all three tranches is Rs 80000, which is substantial for a street vendor whose monthly income is typically between Rs 15000 and Rs 30000.
The interest subsidy is the real game-changer. The base interest rate is around 7 percent per annum, but the government gives a 7 percent interest subsidy, which means the effective interest rate for the borrower is zero percent if repaid on time. The subsidy is credited upfront to the vendor bank account, so the EMI is calculated on the principal only. Additionally, vendors get a monthly cashback of up to Rs 100 for doing digital transactions through UPI QR code, which encourages digital payments and creates a transaction history that helps in getting bigger loans later. Sarkari Notice 247 has been spreading awareness about SVANidhi since 2020, and we have seen vendors transform their businesses from hand-to-mouth existence to stable, growing enterprises.
How to Apply for PM SVANidhi Loan 2026
- Step 1: Get a Certificate of Vending (CoV) from your Urban Local Body (municipal corporation, municipality, or nagar panchayat). If you do not have a CoV, apply for one and get an acknowledgement letter. Both CoV holders and acknowledgement holders are eligible.
- Step 2: Visit the official PM SVANidhi portal at pmsvanidhi.mohua.gov.in. You can also visit a Common Service Centre (CSC) near you where the operator will help you apply for a small fee.
- Step 3: Register on the portal with your mobile number and Aadhaar number. You will receive an OTP for verification. After registration, login to the portal to start the application.
- Step 4: Fill in your personal details, vending details (what you sell, where you vend, since when), bank account details, and Aadhaar details. Upload scanned copies of Aadhaar card, photograph, vending certificate or acknowledgement, and bank passbook front page.
- Step 5: After submission, the Urban Local Body will verify your details. If everything is correct, they will issue a Letter of Recommendation (LoR) which is automatically forwarded to a lending institution (bank, NBFC, or MFI) near you.
- Step 6: The lending institution will contact you for biometric verification and KYC. After verification, the first tranche of Rs 10000 will be sanctioned and disbursed to your bank account within 30 days. There is no collateral or guarantor required.
- Step 7: Repay the first tranche in monthly installments within the stipulated time (usually 1 year). After successful repayment, you become eligible for the second tranche of Rs 20000, and after repaying that, for the third tranche of Rs 50000. Timely repayment also builds your CIBIL score for future loans.
