PM Vishwakarma Yojana 2026 - Rs 15000 Toolkit and Loan up to Rs 3 Lakh for 18 Artisan Trades
Traditional artisans and craftspeople have been the unsung heroes of Indian economy for centuries. The carpenter who makes your furniture, the blacksmith who forges farm implements, the goldsmith who creates wedding jewellery, the potter who makes clay utensils for festivals - these are the people whose skills have been passed down through generations. But they have always struggled with two problems: lack of modern tools and lack of working capital. The PM Vishwakarma Yojana 2026, launched on 17 September 2023, addresses both these problems in one stroke. The scheme provides Rs 15000 as toolkit grant, collateral-free loans up to Rs 3 lakh at just 5 percent interest, free skill training, and marketing support - all under one scheme. I visited a potter in Rajasthan last December who used the Rs 15000 toolkit grant to buy an electric wheel, and his daily production went up from 50 to 200 diyas.
The scheme covers 18 traditional trades, and the list is carefully curated to cover almost every artisan profession in India. The 18 trades are: Carpenter (Suthar), Boat Maker (Navya Shilpi), Armorer (Lohar/Alwar), Blacksmith (Lohar), Hammer and Tool Maker (Hatudiya), Locksmith (Tala Banane Wala), Goldsmith (Sonar), Potter (Kumhar), Sculptor (Moortikar), Cobbler (Mochi), Mason (Raj Mistri), Stone Breaker (Pathar Todne Wala), Basket Maker (Basket Banane Wala), Broom Maker (Jhadu Banane Wala), Doll and Toy Maker (Khilona Banane Wala), Barber (Naai), Garment Maker (Darzi), Fishing Net Maker (Jaal Banane Wala), and Traditional Salt Maker (Namak Banane Wala). If your family profession falls in any of these categories, you are eligible to apply.
What makes this scheme different from PM Mudra or other MSME loans is the holistic approach. It is not just about giving money - it is about upgrading the entire livelihood ecosystem of the artisan. The Rs 15000 toolkit grant is for buying modern tools (electric tools, motorised equipment, etc.) that increase productivity. The skill training (Basic and Advanced, 5 days each) teaches modern techniques, digital payments, and marketing. The collateral-free loan at 5 percent interest is for working capital and business expansion. And the marketing support through the PM Vishwakarma brand helps artisans sell their products at fair prices. Sarkari Notice 247 has been spreading awareness about this scheme since its launch, and we have seen artisans double and triple their monthly income within 12 to 18 months of joining the scheme.
How to Apply for PM Vishwakarma Yojana 2026
- Check if your trade is in the list of 18 eligible trades. Visit pmvishwakarma.gov.in and click on List of Trades to confirm. Your trade must be in this list for you to be eligible.
- Get your documents ready: Aadhaar card, bank passbook, mobile number linked with Aadhaar, passport size photo, and caste or community certificate if applicable. You also need proof of practicing the trade (like a self-declaration or photo of your workshop).
- Visit the official PM Vishwakarma portal at pmvishwakarma.gov.in. You can also visit a Common Service Centre (CSC) where the operator will help you apply free of cost. Registration is done through Aadhaar OTP authentication.
- Fill in your personal details, family details, trade details (which of the 18 trades you practice), annual family income (should be less than Rs 8 lakh), bank account details, and Aadhaar details. Upload scanned documents as required.
- After submission, your application will be verified by the Village-level Committee (in rural areas) or Urban Local Body (in urban areas). The committee will visit your workplace, verify your trade, and recommend approval or rejection.
- After approval, you will receive the Rs 15000 toolkit grant directly in your bank account. You will also be scheduled for Basic Skill Training (5 days) at a nearby training centre. During training, you get Rs 500 per day as daily allowance.
- After completing training, you can apply for the first loan of Rs 1 lakh at 5 percent interest. The loan is collateral-free with 6 months moratorium. After repaying the first loan, you become eligible for the second loan of Rs 2 lakh for further business expansion.
